Man Pleads Guilty to Nearly $1 Million in ID theft

A Chinese man stole nearly $1,000,000 from different accounts at a Houston bank by faking to be someone else.

Xin Gu from Dalian, China, could receive up to 30 years for identity fraud when he’s sentenced on October 19.

According to prosecutors, Gu plead guilty on Tuesday for aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

Police say that Gu presented a fake passport and other fake documents at a Chase bank in the victim’s name.

Prosecutors say that a fictional authorized user was added to the victim’s account a week before the incident.
