A woman from New York City was arrested on Thursday for attempting to defraud donors who thought she was a family member of one of the children who died in a tragic elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Nouel Alba, 37, allegedly used text messages, telephone calls and her Facebook account to accept donations for a “funeral fund.” When investigators asked her about the donations, she denied her actions.

Alba appeared in federal court on the same day of her arrest. She was released on $50,000 bond.
